Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is the evaluation and treatment of injuries or impairments in order to prevent, correct, minimize or alleviate physical injury. Physical therapy may utilize physical agents such as mechanical devices, heat, cold, light, water, electricity, ultrasound, therapeutic exercises, and rehabilitative procedures to restore patients to their maximum level of function. Physical Therapists help to maximize independence and safety along with ensuring comfort and optimal strength.

Manual therapy techniques
Home exercise programs
Gait analysis and training
Orthotic and prosthetic training

Our staff:

Leah Peterson is the Director of Rehab. Services for the Canton-Inwood Memorial Hospital. She graduated with a B.A. Degree in Biology from Augustana College in 1987. She then went on to obtain her M.S. Degree in Community Health and Physical Therapy from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. Leah has attended a multitude of courses covering areas such as the cervical spine, low back, extremities, manual therapy, strength training, sports medicine, pediatrics, ergonomics, and modality education. She is also a clinical instructor with the University of South Dakota Physical Therapy Department.
